Corporate Finance & Investment Funds

Finance is a field that deals with the allocation of assets and liabilities over time under conditions of certainty and uncertainty. An investment is putting money into an asset with the expectation that it will maintain or increase its value over time. Corporate finance deals with the sources of funding, the capital structure of corporations, the actions that managers take to increase the value of the firm to the shareholders, as well as the tools and analysis used to allocate financial resources. Corporate finance generally involves balancing risk and profitability, while attempting to maximize an entity's wealth and the value of its stock.

Corporate finance also includes within its scope business valuation, stock investing, or investment management. Financial risk management, an element of corporate finance, is the practice of creating and protecting economic value in a firm by using financial instruments to manage exposure to risk. Similar to general risk management, financial risk management requires identifying its sources, measuring it, and formulating plans to address these, and can be qualitative and quantitative. One of the most famous and successful investor of all time is Warren Buffett. Buffett has advised in numerous articles and interviews that a good investment strategy is long term and choosing the right assets to invest in requires due diligence.

The following case study demonstrates how SCMO approach has been successfully applied to client issues.

Our client was a bank, which was considering investing in a national distributor of electrical products from a renowned international brand. The company was family run, with a very traditional and old-fashion paternalistic culture. SCMO was asked to deliver an operational due diligence of the company supply chain, which was completed within 2 months to a strict timetable. Our audit report highlighted potential areas of improvement, of possible cost reduction and risk mitigation. We were then commissioned to reorganize the logistics platform and the national truck distribution. Another specialized subcontractor renewed the ERP of the company, which also had to undergo a full reshuffling & training of its customer service team, as a condition for the investment to materialize.
